"Fashion can be bought but style one must possess."

There's being overrated in a good way and there's being overrated in a bad way and that brought my attention to fashion. Certain fashion trends this year are completely overrated. In a very, very bad way. I thank Tumblr for that. The website now mostly consist of girls/models in nice clothes, make up, accessories, hair styles, anything and everything. Just about anyone on the other side of the computer screen can duplicate that outfit/look with no effort at all. Even a big ole guy can put on the exact outfit and claim he has style. A lot of people think just because they purchase or possess a well-known item or what everyone has it makes them "fashionable." Well, it doesn't. Just because you have this years latest combat boots, doesn't mean you know how to work it. Or that impecable dress that you decide to sport with hideous gladiator sandals.

Don't get me wrong, I can be as trendy as the next person you see on the street with my high-waisted shorts and cut up shirts, but for me, at least I don't consider myself fashionable at all or try to perceive myself to be that way. As shallow and self-absorbed as it sounds, I honestly just wear whatever makes me look good or I purchase what is appealing to me. I don't have a certain style, although many have labeled me as a hipster (which I hate), but if you asked me what my style was, I'll say 'comfortable.' My style is comfort. I wear what I feel comfortable in and I don't otherwise.

I think it's very true what Coco Chanel said,"Fashion can be bought but style one must possess." Just because you own whatever everyone else owns and call it fashion, doesn't mean you have style or know how to put it together. I understand fashion and clothes allow you to be whoever you want to be, even if it's just for a day. But I'm disappointed and unimpressed how anything can be considered fashionable nowadays. Put on ripped up tights and Jeffrey Campbells and you are the most fashionablest person ever. But underneath all of that, you're still the same person you were yesterday, last week, couple months ago. Fashion doesn't make up for personality. That's the thing I hate about trends. They display people to be someone they're not, they're just like everyone else, and eventually the value of the brand, the item doesn't have any meaning. What meaning you ask? Well, originality and individuality. Which is something a lot of people don't have anymore or lack. Days go by and I become less and less impressed by the styles display on Tumblr/Lookbook.nu/Blogspot, even someone I meet, just because everything and everyone dress the same. Maybe if for a second people start to care more about what's in their head and not what's on it, then maybe for a second, they'll have their own sense of style, not someone else's.

***Excuse some of my grammatical mistakes and errors, I have been sick for the past week and currently on medication. A drowsy writer is never a good writer, but then again, most writers back in the days were always intoxicated pouring their love out onto paper, or desperately needing to put their thoughts somewhere. And I have no time to proofread, my creamy tomato soup is boiling.
